During our Brecon Beacons training weekend, despite the use of a map holder, our map became damp and began to disintegrate at the slightest touch.
Determined not to suffer a repeat performance during our Tour du Mont Blanc we investigated ways of waterproofing documents. The only way to totally waterproof is to plastic encapsulate which is not really suitable. So we ended up with the waterproofing solution shown which can be bought in good DIY shops.

The solution was sprayed onto both sides of our accommodation list and both sides of our TMB map and left to dry outside.
We found that the spray not only made the paper water resistant but also appeared to strengthen it.
