It goes without saying that having a high quality, correctly adjusted framed rucksack is fundamental to an enjoyable Tour du Mont Blanc.
I carried a mens 65 litre Cougar Karrimor and Anne-Marie carried a ladies 55 litre Monsoon Karrimor. If we'd travelled light then we could undoubtedly have used smaller rucksacks.
It is essential that the rucksack is correctly adjusted to suit your frame.
Your rucksack should have come with adjustment instructions. A poorly adjusted rucksack will hurt the shoulders and cause back ache.
If you're uncertain how to adjust your rucksack then take it back to the shop where you bought it and get them to adjust it for you.
Whichever rucksack you use, we'd recommend that you buy one that has somewhere to comfortably hold your water pouch. Both of our rucksacks had an inner pocket that was ideal for the job.
You will need to cover your rucksack in a waterproof layer if the contents are to have a chance of remaining dry in the rain.
Most rucksacks come with a waterproof cover which should be fitted and tightened to ensure that it doesn't blow off in high winds.
Because we were walking with ponchos designed to enclose our rucksacks, we forwent the rucksack covers.
