On arrival at a refuge you'll need to stow your boots and change in to alternative footwear.

Most refuges supply slippers for this purpose.

However, for your own comfort, you may prefer to take some light refuge shoes of your own.

We took the type of shoes shown.

Having our own shoes proved  especially advantageous when we stopped in Courmayer.

We found a delightful single star hotel in the centre of town. After showering, we were able to go for a very civilised stroll in the town, have a drink and a restaurant meal, relaxed and appropriately dressed in our refuge shoes.
