What you take as emergency rations is very much down to personal preference and eating style.
We preferred to have a light breakfast, snack lightly during the hike and then have a large meal in the evening.
Consequently, our emergency rations also acted as our snack rations unless we stopped en route at a refuge for a drink and sandwich.
We took plenty of nuts and raisins, energy bars and supplemented these with cheese and saussison.
