If you're sharing a dortoir and you're a light sleeper you'll most likely find yourself woken up in the morning by a chorus of other hikers alarms.

Personally however, if I know I need to be up by a certain time, I sleep more soundly if I know an alarm has been set to wake me up.

To keep your pack light, the ideal solution is to have an alarm on your watch or mobile phone.

Failing that, take a small alarm clock, preferably one that doesn't tick too loudly.
